BIG FIVE Of Iron Lighthouses
Exhibition presented in the gallery of the Tuuletorn Experience Center in Hiiumaa from May 1 to June 10, 2024
The installation includes photographs, original historical drawings and nautical charts, all focused on exploring the possibilities of expression offered by metal as a material, as described by engineer Louis Sautter in his book “Notice sur les Phares” published in 1881. This study of the Big Five of the first metal lighthouses was carried out over two years during expeditions to various regions of the world, from Jamaica to New Caledonia. These technical experiments paved the way for the construction of the tallest building in the world at the time, the Eiffel Tower, which, completed in 1889, pushed the limits of human capabilities and opened new aesthetic horizons.
The opening will take place in the gallery of the Tuuletorn Experience Center on May 1st at 4 PM.
